Triangle Employer Selected to Promote Engineering Careers
RALEIGH, NC / ACCESSWIRE / March 22, 2023 / It is expected to generate more than long-standing federal investments to modernize the nation’s infrastructure 82,000 new jobs in engineering, public works and design services until 2026. But with unemployment in the architecture and engineering sector below 50-year lows in the broader economy, there is a resulting gap between supply and demand for engineers.
Gary Hartong, a professional engineer who runs a Raleigh-based company, has been chosen by his peers to help bridge that future divide. as president of Wooten CompanyHe is also the vice president of Hartong American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), which helped push the passage of the successful bipartisan infrastructure bill. ACEC members recently voted in favor of the organization College of Scholars to promote engineering careers.

Candidates for the Fellowship of Fellows are nominated through ACEC and its member organizations for demonstrated personal commitment, service, leadership and enhancing the public image of the consulting engineering profession. Each year, a limited number of engineers are selected for the nationwide career promotion body.

Fellows are challenged to coordinate outreach that motivates and recruits future engineers. ACEC encourages members to volunteer as spokespeople for the engineering profession at civic events, colleges and universities, and other venues that would provide opportunities to persuade people to enter the profession.
