Sandwell celebrates National Careers Week
Connexions Sandwell is promoting a wide range of careers information, advice and guidance to mark this year’s National Careers Week (NCW).
Check out a series of posts on our social media accounts throughout the week and upcoming events this month.
National Careers Week is for careers staff working in schools and colleges supporting Year 11 students as they prepare to leave school. A week-long celebration of careers guidance in the UK will take place from 6th March to 11th March. Councilor Simon Hackett, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Education, will be visiting a number of Sandwell schools and training providers throughout the week where Connexions Sandwell Careers Advisers work and provide advice and guidance, to find out how careers advice and guidance has helped young people. He informed people about their journey and next steps.
In addition, each day the Connexions Sandwell team will feature four separate posts to help people think about career options. The aim is to focus on vocational guidance at an important stage in the academic calendar, to help young people who leave school.

Guidance is key to identifying suitable career paths for young people. The role of a Connexions Sandwell careers adviser is to help a young person understand what qualifications or standards they need to progress so they are ready for further education, employment or training.
Sandwell Adult and Family Learning Services also offer workplace-based courses in English, maths and IT skills, enabling adults to gain qualifications that can help them change careers. The 2nd level qualification courses will start this month. The evaluations of these courses take place between March 13 and 16. Councilor Hackett said:
“At Sandwell we are committed to providing our young people with the skills and experience they will need to apply for the jobs of the future.
“The Connexions team helps young people understand enough about the world of work to know what skills they need to succeed. The group will continue to help inspire young people to make decisions about their future.’
