Broadcast Engineer – Transmitter

Vermont Public Broadcast Engineer – Transmitter is looking for a part of our internal services team, helping us deliver great content to the region. The start date is the end of May 2023.

Who should apply?
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in transmitter maintenance or related technical fields. Associate’s degree or comparable formal training in electrical or computer related studies, SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) certification or licensed amateur radio operator preferred but not required. Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to work alone in isolated transmitter sites, as well as the ability to work with listeners, vendors, contractors and regulators. Must have a valid driver’s license to drive at various work sites. Candidates are expected to have a high level of commitment and dedication to the mission of the organization and public media. Must be able to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with colleagues and audiences, supporting and enhancing a culture of membership, as well as appropriately maintaining confidentiality.
Details:
This is a full-time, non-exempt hourly Bargaining Union position; compensation starts at $36.47 per hour, depending on experience.

News Producer, Morning Edition

Vermont Public is seeking a full-time news producer for the morning shift. In this role, you are responsible for producing news and interviews for the Morning Edition and our digital audience. The producer works with editors and the Morning Edition host to develop morning coverage plans that are informative and dynamic.

Data Journalist

Vermont Public is seeking a Data Journalist to report and build data-driven stories, visuals and other products to create impactful digital-first reporting in collaboration with editors, producers and reporters in the Vermont Public newsroom. The data journalist will pitch ideas for original stories and help report and analyze data for stories created by others. Through their work, data journalists will uncover previously inaccessible facts and stories for the public interest. A data journalist is part of a digital team and works collaboratively to create, adapt and enhance all our stories for the digital space.

Who should apply?
Candidates should have experience working on data projects in a newsroom or experience performing statistical analysis or scientific data, either in academia or in another research setting. Must have sound editorial judgment and the ability to write quickly and clearly. An understanding of data analysis tools such as SQL, R, D3, JavaScript, Python, and Microsoft Excel is required if a degree in journalism or a quantitative field is desired, as well as familiarity with the state of Vermont. Digital producer

Vermont Public is seeking a reporter to join our award-winning digital news team as a digital producer. This highly collaborative role requires strong news judgment and strong attention to detail. This role will work to compile broadcast segments into an illuminating webcast or TikTok (or both); make photos, infographics, collages and other images; write and edit web, social media and newsletter copy using AP style (plus create killer headlines); and teach colleagues how to incorporate these tools into their reports. We are looking for someone who loves working on digital platforms and feels at home in daily news. Creativity, excellent communication and a love of deadlines are essential.

Event producer

Vermont Public is seeking an Event Producer to develop and produce events to support Vermont Public’s goals and objectives. The event producer is responsible for planning and implementing a wide range of public and private events locally, regionally and in virtual spaces.

Who should apply?
Candidates must have at least two years of experience planning and producing events, and have the ability to see the big picture in all phases of event planning, design and production while managing details, goals and deadlines. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of diplomacy and professionalism, demonstrate a passion for public media, community building and event management. Must have a valid driver’s license and passport to travel to various events.

A full-time wage-exempt position is non-union; compensation ranges from $60,000 to $65,000 per year, averaging 40 hours per week.

Production technician

The Production Technician is a support role for the video production process at all stages of content creation. The Production Technician works with managers, producers, videographers and editors to help the team deliver content on time and to standard. Projects include broadcast programs, digital content, fundraising and promotions, among others. Requires familiarity with the most popular digital video formats, as well as an understanding of digital acquisition and delivery (web and other media). Experience with post production/non-linear editing required. A good understanding of the use, proper handling and technology of a digital video camera is expected. A basic understanding of sound acquisition, lighting and broadcast television systems is desirable.

Who should apply?
College degree preferred and two or more years in television, cable, agency and/or production*. Excellent attention to detail. Technical ability to operate computers and video production equipment, including but not limited to video cameras, lighting, audio, and non-linear editing. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly learn and apply new skills. Ability to adapt to change and remain calm under pressure.*Equivalent combination of experience and/or education will be considered.

Details:
This is a full-time position in the non-exempt Bargaining Unit. Compensation starts at $20.80, depending on experience; with an average of 40 hours per week.
