Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering The Cockrell School of Engineering is the university’s most prominent department. Home to more than 2,500 students and 80 faculty members, the department is known for its cutting-edge research, development and design expertise.
The four-semester MS degree in Engineering has eight academic tracks: Architecture, Computer Systems and Embedded Systems (ACSES); bioECE; Decision, Information and Communication Engineering (DICE); Electromagnetism and Acoustics (EA); Electronics, Photonics and Quantum Systems (EPQS); Integrated Circuits and Systems (ICS); Power Electronics and Power Systems (PEPS) and Software Engineering and Systems (SES). Students have full access to UT Austin’s diverse resources and interdisciplinary work.
Upon completion, they can progress to a Ph.D.—a path that has led Yifan Jiang to become the recipient of the 2023 Apple Scholars AI/ML Ph.D. He will receive funding as he pursues his PhD, internship opportunities and a mentorship with an Apple researcher in their field.
